The 20 Least Desirable Cities for Real Estate (September 2011)

October 31, 2011 - 04:34 PM

The following cities were determined to be the 20 least desirable US cities for real estate home purchases for September 2011, among the 139 cities tracked by BuyersUSA Relocation.

Akron, OH
Virginia Beach, VA
Honolulu, HI
Providence, RI
Los Angeles, CA
Cincinnati, OH
Chicago, IL
San Francisco, CA
Salt Lake City, UT
Riverside, CA
Boston, MA
Oklahoma City, OK
Kingston, NY
Minneapolis, MN
Baltimore, MD
Hartford, CT
Worcester, MA
Portland, ME
Cleveland, OH
Milwaukee, WI

These cities are based upon interest in real estate and home buyer relocation for a given city. The numbers are adjusted by population to show relative interest. BuyersUSA Relocation tracks amount of expressed interest in real estate purchases for 139 major US cities and publishes the Housing Desirability Index monthly around the middle of the month for the previous month. It is our belief that Housing Desirability is a leading indicator for future new construction permits, home purchase contracts, and the eventual closed sales. Several factors such as changes in economic conditions and lending practices may frequently disrupt the accuracy of the Index as a leading indicator.
